Viewing soldiers at Benina Airport, 19 February 2011

On this day 19Feb 2011 we witnessed the last departing flights from Benina. We arranged for a surveyor to set up an instrument so we could view the activities as a large buildup of soldiers was taking place. We didnt know if these were government troops, mercenaries, or soldiers who had defected. In the foreground is the new terminal apron which had just been constructed to grade after months of work.Later this evening we watched as a large aircraft tried to land and the 200+ soldiers opened fire on it to prevent it landing. This was more mercenaries attempting to infiltrate Benghazi to suppress the protesting.Soon after all our heavy equipment was moved onto the runways and Benina Airport was closed to all flights.
